Key points about the Libre Graphics Meeting
May 2006, Dave Neary has organized the first LGM in Lyon. Since then it has become a yearly rendezvous and has taken place each Spring at various places: Montreal (three times), Wrocław, Brussels, Vienna and this year in Leipzig.
The LGM is an important venue for the development and the promotion of the free and open source software for graphic artists. At the LGM the programmers, the community and the users get together to improve their beloved programs.
The LGM is the event presenting the free software covering most graphics artists need. A non exhaustive list of the projects participating: Blender, Gimp, Hugin, Inkscape, Krita, Scribus, …
All of our software is released under an open-source license (mostly the GPL or a BSD license), which means it may be used free of any license fees, for any purpose: private, governmental, commercial, etc. It may be installed on an unlimited number of computers, and may be copied and distributed without restriction.
Most of our programs are available on all major computing platforms and are translated in many languages.
Key points about the Libre Graphics Community
There is no thing as a Libre Graphics Community as such. Each project has its own community and the bigger ones have language specific communities.
The Libre Graphics Meeting is the annual physical meeting point for all those communities. There is a lot of activity going on all year round through the IRC channels and the mailing lists dedicated to each project. The community is also gathering through various Wikis and Websites including the Graphics Planet and the Libre Graphics World. There are also several local organizations around the world.
Most of our work is done over the and most of the time there are no a physical headquarters. The overwhelming majority of Community members are volunteers. A small number are sponsored by their employers and some projects get sponsorships.
